Second Best!!

This is a representation of the girl who doesn't think she's good enough. Her hair is not perfect, she's not skinny enough, her breasts aren't big enough, she doesn't think she is good enough!!! This is how many girls and women feel when they see the models on TV and in magazine and Then they look at them selves in the mirror.
This is my painting with a meaning!!!

Love is Color Blind

The style of this painting is pop art. This painting is sort of personal as I am part of an interracial couple. Sometimes people give us ugly looks or whisper to each other about us, but our love still remains inspired of people. I didn't have an exact plan first this work, I just wanted to show what the stereo typical marriage is and how marriage is for me. This is simply a pop art piece. I wanted it to be simple and to the point. The people in the paintings are the focal point. I what people who see these paintings to realize that marriage is not always between two people of the same race. I'm happy with the smallness of these paintings because I think it adds to the pop art feel of the piece. They look like something out of the comic section in the newspaper, but with a twist, showing reality along with the stereotype. This is my first time painting about a contemporary issues that is important to me.

Landscape

This painting is small but it's very realistic. I think it looks like a post card. It makes me want to take a trip to see the ocean or go camping by a lake. I do love nature.

The Tea Pot

This is my still life. I'm so proud of how realistic it looks. It's almost all one color except for the light areas and the shadowed areas.  This tea pot reminds me of my Uncle who always has a tea pot on his wood burning stove. It acts as a humidifer and it saves electricity.

Van Gogh

This is also a copy. I wanted to make it my own by making the figure of the woman a bit larger than the original. I wanted to show that women of all sizes are beautiful.

Okeef

This is basically a copy of an O'Keefe painting.  I don't like it because its not my style. I do however like the color. I also like the organic shape of the leaf.

My first painting of a person

Before this piece I had never painted a person, infact, I was afraid to paint a person. But I was presented with an opportunity to help raise money for the TCC south campus art scholarship fund, I said OK, I'll try. I'm really proud of this piece, I surprised myself. It turned out much better than I thought it would. I learned that I can paint people.

Wisconsin memories

For this piece I used complementary colors (purple and red) and white. I chose the two colors because purple is my favorite color and red because the picnic table my grandfather built he painted red. I painted this one in memory of my father.

For my husband

This piece I painted for my husband. He is a preacher and is my Pastor. So for this piece it seemed fitting to paint a Bible and a cross in black and white and give it to my husband.
It was interesting to paint an entire painting with only two colors.

My organic piece

This piece for me was really weird. I had never even thought of applying smoke to a canvas and calling it art. I also had never thought of putting paint on a paper plate, swirling it around, and calling it art. I really don't like this piece much, but it did help me to know what I don't like.  So it was a good experience, never the less.

Something different

This piece is a sculpture after the style of David Bates. I didn't know how to approach this project at first, but once I started putting things together, it just came out this way. This was a fun piece for me. I enjoyed putting things like cardboard and styrofoam together and watching it turn into a man sitting on a chair.

Painting # 2

With this painting I picked two objects that didn't seem to go together. The idea is that it's party time. The watch and the numbers represent time and lots of it and the shoes represent party shoes. While painting the shoes I learned how to make things look 3 demeantional.

My First Painting

I had not painted anything before this piece. I learned a lot about color and the different values of a particular color. For instance black is not just one flat color, it consists of many different values of black. I had to even at some purple and some red to show the reflection of the back ground. This was a very good experience!
